Who You Are

As a Mechanical Engineer within the Housing Property Services at Islington Council, you are a professional with a passion for making a fairer borough. Qualified as a Chartered Engineer or equivalent, you have extensive experience in leading medium to large mechanical engineering projects. What the Job Involves

You will provide a professional mechanical engineering service by specifying and designing new mechanical systems and managing projects from inception through to completion. This includes acting as a contract administrator, handling procurement, and overseeing contractors and external consultants. Your responsibilities also involve ensuring project delivery within budget and timescales, conducting inspections, writing technical reports, leading procurement processes, and ensuring compliance with statutory regulations. You will coordinate and manage resources efficiently, ensuring value for money, and provide technical representation at meetings and stakeholder consultations.

Skills

  • Chartered Engineer or member of relevant chartered institution
  • Excellent technical knowledge in mechanical installations and heat networks
  • Strong communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to write and review technical reports
  • Creative problem-solving skills in engineering design and maintenance
  • Project management and contract administration expertise
  • Knowledge of statutory regulations and British Standards
  • Capability to liaise with and direct consultants
  • Familiarity with engineering forms of contract
  • Flexibility for evening meetings and site visits
